As the Like a Dragon/Yakuza series prepares to mark its 20th anniversary next year, anticipation builds for what’s in store.
The Like a Dragon series, formerly affectionately known as Yakuza, has just celebrated its 19th anniversary, with a special milestone reached on December 8 – the original game’s release date on PS2. As video games have finally achieved mainstream acceptance in the West over the past decade, it’s no surprise they’ve reached unprecedented heights. With their 20th anniversary approaching, anticipation is building for potentially groundbreaking news. Is it possible that? On the occasion of the anniversary celebration, the official RGG Studio Twitter account honored the milestone with a heartfelt video message from Masayoshi Yokoyama, studio director and governing producer.
“Right now, December eighth, marks the day the primary sport within the Like a Dragon & Yakuza collection was launched,” Yokoyama stated. “Nineteen years have elapsed since the first game in the collection was released in Japan, marking the start of a momentous milestone leading up to the twentieth anniversary next year. As we look ahead, we will be hosting various events and making announcements in the lead-up to this special occasion.” As part of our strategic expansion, we are developing a global logistics infrastructure to deliver diverse products and content to fans across Japan, Asia, and Western markets, starting from next year.
