Unlike any other game, there’s never been a title without supplementary content post-launch, but BioWare seems to be bucking this trend with its latest release, the fourth installment of the series.
According to an interview with Rolling Stone, Jon Epler, innovative director at BioWare, disclosed that the studio has no intention of releasing post-launch DLC for their fantasy motion RPG, and instead will be shifting their full attention to a new project currently in pre-production, which is set to become their next major endeavor. Despite this, information regarding the latter remains scarce at present.
Despite likely releasing any necessary patches or hotfixes for the game in the coming weeks and months, there appears to be no major new content or feature additions currently in the pipeline.
Actually, it seems that things have got off to a relatively stable start. The long-awaited revival of the beloved motion RPG series has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews, concurrently reaching the pinnacle of Steam’s sales charts and cementing its status as Electronic Arts’ most successful single-player title on the platform.
As of 2020, the recreation’s revival was officially confirmed, with BioWare providing scant updates since then, aside from occasional teasers and concept art glimpses. In June of last year, the studio officially confirmed that the project remained in pre-production phase.
The Challenge Director, Michael Gamble, has reaffirmed that the forthcoming title will maintain its mature tone and photorealistic artistic style, consistent with the precedent set by the original trilogy. Meanwhile, rumors suggest a departure from the open-world format seen in previous installments.
Confirmed is the development of the sport on Unreal Engine 5, marking a departure from EA’s proprietary Frostbite engine for the first time in a BioWare game since.
According to reports, several titles in the franchise are not expected to launch until 2028 or 2029, leaving fans with a long wait ahead, despite this being BioWare’s next major mission.
