Bioware has confirmed that it drew inspiration from the popular “distracted boyfriend” meme when exploring multiplayer elements for its game, now known as Dragon Age: The Veilguard; however, it quickly refocused on its signature strengths.
An interview with Recreation Informer has yielded new insight into the upcoming game from Bioware, leaving us still eager for answers on a pressing question: does the game feature in-game genitalia, something fans have been burning to know?
According to BioWare’s normal supervisor Gary McKay, the sports developers explored numerous creative avenues during the pre-production phase. At one point, the team explored developing a multiplayer aspect, but ultimately decided against it, according to their leader, who admitted that they struggled to revisit their gaming heritage.
As we reflected on what type of entertainment we wanted to create, we felt compelled to return to our core strength: crafting exceptional stories that truly resonate. These enigmatic figures left an indelible mark on our collective consciousness. What a rare privilege it is to have the power to shape the world we live in? He explained that they had initially considered incorporating a multiplayer component into their game, but ultimately decided against it. “While our primary focus lies in crafting an exceptional single-player RPG experience, we’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to refine our creative vision during pre-production. With a clear understanding of what we want to achieve, we’re now eager to bring this artistic promise to life and deliver a truly remarkable game.”
According to reports from Bloomberg in 2021, Veilguard’s initial development trajectory focused heavily on multiplayer features, only to have this emphasis subsequently abandoned. The report highlighted the critical acclaim of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the underwhelming response to Anthem as key factors in Electronic Arts’ (EA) decision to maintain a single-player focus for what was then referred to as Dragon Age 4, rather than pursuing a multiplayer approach.
Revisiting these roots seems reminiscent of BioWare’s commitment to consistency, with former collection producer Mark Darrah’s consultation on Veilguard echoing similar sentiments when discussing the studio’s evolution over time. What’s truly exceptional about Veilgard is its bold acknowledgment of BioWare’s greatest strength: crafting captivating stories through memorable characters, finally giving voice to this long-standing studio hallmark. Upon re-exploring the entirety of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 2, it becomes apparent that these iconic video games weave narratives through their well-developed characters; yet, this storytelling was not a deliberate design choice.
“On this occasion, we’re finally putting intentionality first,” he added.
Wouldn’t have been thrilled about committing to a multiplayer-only experience in The Veilguard, considering my preferences skew towards single-player storytelling in the Dragon Age series. Experience the thrill firsthand; check out our in-depth preview of the sport for an immersive understanding.
