DC is pushing forward with its Green Lantern series at HBO, securing a first-season order of eight episodes.
As part of the DC Studios’ efforts, led by James Gunn, several initiatives are underway, including a television series focused on the iconic character, Green Lantern. The upcoming comic series has recently been revealed to be written by renowned author Tom King, teaming up with the accomplished creator Damon Lindelof, best known for his work on successful shows such as Lost and Watchmen. According to a recent report from Selection, the present has officially been picked up by HBO in its formal capacity. The planned distinction between Max Authentic and Warner Bros’ original content has diminished, as the studio now intends to rebrand its streaming shows under the HBO Originals label.
As part of the present’s creative team, Chris Mundy serves as both showrunner and government producer, building on his previous experience as a producer on True Detective: Evening Nation and former showrunner of Ozark. We’re thrilled to announce that we’re reuniting with Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof, who will be collaborating with Tom on a new take on DC’s Green Lantern, as CEO of HBO and Max content, Casey Bloys, declared in a statement. “As part of James and Peter Safran’s vision for the DC Universe, this inaugural live-action series marks an exciting new era.”
The Green Lantern Corps’ most iconic members, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, will come together in a gripping crime drama that draws inspiration from the beloved Justice League animated series. The logline reads: “Two intergalactic lawmen are pulled into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Gunn and Safran have jointly announced that they are delighted to bring the iconic DC title to HBO, with Chris, Damon, and Tom at the creative helm. Two iconic DC characters, John Stewart and Hal Jordan, come together in a captivating detective tale, Lanterns, which has the potential to serve as a cornerstone for our forthcoming unified DC Universe, set to launch alongside Superman this summer.
The upcoming DC Universe is poised to launch its revamped continuity with a Superman reboot slated for next year, featuring David Corenswet’s debut as the iconic hero in a recent preview that conveniently glosses over the absurd setup established by the first look.
