Crimson – Mercenary Tales lands on PlayStation VR2 later this week.
Developed by Carbon Studio, the creators of Hunt: Collectively and The Wizards, players may remember Crimen – Mercenary Tales from its initial launch last year across major VR platforms.
Set in the 17th century, Crimen’s action-packed adventure unfolds across eight distinct tales, transporting players to a world of stunning comedian book-style visuals as they explore majestic castles, swashbuckling pirate ships, ancient temples, and more.
The PlayStation VR2 version of Crimen boasts significant upgrades, including the addition of 4K textures, more realistic dynamic shadows, enhanced lighting effects, and visually striking metallic finishes on weapons. While the forthcoming virtual reality game, developed by Carbon Studio, will initially lack innovative features such as adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, the studio has informed UploadVR that they aim to add these capabilities as soon as possible following its release.
With the PSVR2 launch coinciding, Crimen is set to receive an updated version on Quest, Rift, and Steam platforms simultaneously. Carbon Studio has officially unveiled the Quest 3 model, boasting an enhanced pixel density. Additionally, the update brings a range of improvements, including balanced game mechanics, increased foliage, regular bug fixes, and further performance optimizations.
In our previous year’s evaluation, we successfully integrated diverse perspectives. Despite our praise for Crimen’s engaging humor and captivating premise, we lamented the brevity of the work, which felt rushed and lacked sufficient conflict to truly resonate.
Crimes’ hack-and-slash gameplay flashes moments of brilliance, punctuating its narrative with a genuine mini-quest or two. Despite appearances, the character and enemy rosters are surprisingly one-dimensional, with battles devolving into tedium, even when rare, unique weapons offer a brief respite.
Is Crimen – Mercenary Tales now available to launch exclusively on PlayStation VR2? The acclaimed visual novel Elsewhere is now available on a range of platforms, including Quest, Pico, Rift, and Steam.
