Has seized control of the annual tradition of crafting chocolate bars and asserted dominance in the realm of spices over the past year. However, his next great challenge lies in a most unexpected arena: table tennis!
What’s your interest in ping pong, anyway? While some may view this as a carefree expression of self, the text lacks clarity and coherence. Here’s an improved version:
As many people do, I find that being ambivalent is a common trait. It often occurs during vacations when inhibitions are lowered, perhaps accompanied by a relaxed state. The idea of a ping-pong desk then sparks curiosity – might this be an opportunity to engage in a sport? It’s unlikely that you’re truly exceptional at it, those who excel – professionally, to be precise – are the ones who, according to a report by Selection, could potentially be Timothée Chalamet’s next career step. A24 unveiled Marty Supreme, its latest project, in response to Selection’s report, but beyond confirming director Josh Safdie and actor Timothée Chalamet, the studio remained tight-lipped about the details of this new challenge. Luckily, Selection proved effective at filling in some gaps.
According to sources speaking with Selection, the forthcoming film is a uniquely fictionalized tale, not based on any real-life events or individuals. However, those same sources have revealed that the movie’s narrative was influenced by the remarkable story of professional ping-pong player Marty Reisman. The renowned table tennis player, who passed away in 2012, started his career as a hustler on Manhattan streets, where he’d compete for wagers and prize money. Throughout his illustrious career, he accumulated an impressive 22 major table tennis titles from 1946 to 2002, while also claiming five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. The film’s protagonist, Reisman, earned the nickname “wizard of desk tennis,” suggesting an intriguing and entertaining personality.
Josh Safdie is most renowned for his collaborations with Benny Safdie, particularly in critically acclaimed films such as Good Time and Uncut Gems. Two professionals decided to pursue different paths and venture into various directions for their respective careers earlier this year, with Benny having recently contributed to the creation and starring role in “The Curse”, a unique reality-TV series spoof that featured Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone as co-stars.
Ronald Bronstein, a frequent collaborator with the Safdie brothers, is co-writing Marty Supreme alongside them. Despite limited information available about the forthcoming ping pong film, A24 confidently assures fans that it’s “on its way soon.”
