CBS revives Van Helsing as a TV series, but the concept deviates from expectations.
Netflix and BBC announced on June 26 that Jonathan Lee, creator of the upcoming drama series Lockerbie, will be penning the show, reimagining the iconic character as a contemporary detective.
Here is the revised text in a different style:
A fresh take on the iconic Monster Hunter series, this revamped storyline injects modern flair into the thrilling adventures of Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, a renowned scholar with an insatiable curiosity, partners with his former lover and determined FBI agent Mina Harker to investigate New York City’s most baffling and sinister cases, as their pursuit of truth uncovers dark secrets and ancient mysteries.
At CBS, Van Helsing is designed as another procedural endeavour with the intention of running for multiple seasons. Lee boasts an impressive literary pedigree, having penned novels on par with The Nice Mistake. Moreover, he is collaborating on a Las Vegas heist series with Reservation Canines’ Sterlin Harjo for FX, and has also secured an adaptation deal for his third novel, Excessive Dive, with acclaimed screenwriter Eric Roth, best known for Dune. Rob Doherty, the creator of Elementary, is teaming up with producers Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman under their banner at Lionsgate Television to bring the series to life.
This is not the definitive television sequence centered on a character whose development has been underway or is anticipated to unfold in the near future. Package Williamson, the creator of EastSiders, is currently developing a series based on Jason Henderson’s Alex Van Helsing novel trilogy, focusing on a 14-year-old descendant in collaboration with AGCTV.
It’s been nearly two decades since Richard Armitage led a massive blockbuster as the iconic monster hunter, Van Helsing, in the 2004 film, with its lukewarm reception at launch leaving room for redemption.
