Recently, there were doubts about the possibility of the series’ revival, let alone a new Capcom crossover fighter, but circumstances have suddenly shifted. In a surprise move, Capcom unveiled a long-awaited update, following a recent string of shadowy drops. As re-releases continue to roll out, there’s renewed optimism among fans that new installments might be in the works – and it seems Capcom is considering this possibility too.
In an exclusive interview with Dextero, Capcom’s Shuhei Matsumoto, producer on several notable titles including Street Fighter V and Resident Evil: Village, has revealed that the company’s internal team is setting “massive goals” for developing new crossover-based video games, potentially featuring iconic properties like Marvel or SNK in the future. Matsumoto suggests that, while not ruling out the possibility of such projects in the future, they are unlikely to materialize soon, as growth will require some time; hence, Capcom’s focus remains on re-releasing existing titles rather than new developments.
“The event team at Capcom has ambitious plans,” he declared. Perhaps there’s a unique opportunity to create a completely novel sport. What if there’s a possibility of a fresh Capcom-SNK sports game?
“I don’t know. If we were to make this happen, it would likely require significant effort and time to create and launch such games; however, in the short term, our focus will shift to reintroducing these legacy titles to a new audience, providing an opportunity for individuals who may not have had the chance to play them due to their limited availability on modern or current platforms.
Let’s acknowledge that these sequences indeed exist? We love these video games.
We’re optimistic that others share our enthusiasm for this concept. As users become more acquainted with these sequences, we envision a future where innovative alternatives emerge, potentially revolutionizing the gaming industry.
Now available on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with the same release slated for later this year on these same platforms.
