Microsoft drops sportswear-themed update, called Sport Mode, on July 24. Microsoft’s flagship franchise returns to its subscription service under the corporation’s ownership of Activision Blizzard as the principal Call of Duty game. The potential for sports action is palpable on Sport Move for Xbox consoles, PC, and the comprehensive Sport Move Final.
Activision and lead developer Sledgehammer Games launched their new title in November 2023. Building upon the success of its 2022 predecessor, this installment is a direct sequel that thrusts players into the midst of a high-stakes global manhunt alongside iconic characters Captain Price, Soap MacTavish, and the rest of Task Force 141 as they track down the elusive and formidable Vladimir Makarov. Additionally, this edition comes with the collection of conventional multiplayer modes and Zombies, reimagined in a co-operative player versus environment extraction mode where players must work together to survive and achieve objectives.
Microsoft announced last year that the 2024 Call of Duty game will be a day-one release for Game Pass subscribers. Prior to the October launch of Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft updated its gaming subscription options; the company increased the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and discontinued its original Game Pass tier, replacing it with a more basic offering, Xbox Game Pass Standard. Microsoft’s latest gaming console, the Sport Move Commonplace, will deviate from its traditional approach by not featuring day-one releases.
Microsoft completed its approximately $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in October 2022, 21 months following the announcement of its plan to acquire the developer of Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush. Since acquiring Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has made limited progress in integrating the acquired company’s classic titles onto Xbox Game Pass. Although Microsoft had initially paused Game Pass subscriptions for Blizzard Entertainment’s titles in October, the tech giant resumed service for console and PC players in March.
