Bootstrap Island, the PC VR survival game, introduces its first formidable boss and an all-new destination with today’s major update.
Currently available in early access, Immediate’s “Overlord Replace” for Bootstrap Island brings forth several significant updates. Within the foreboding ‘Darkish Lair’, an imposing behemoth awaits: the Jungle Overlord, a colossal ape bent on destruction and your demise. The innovative features of this world include a day-to-day counter, ensuring a tangible sense of progression, as well as food-spoiling mechanics, adding an element of realism to foraging and resource management. Additionally, the boots provide a significant boost in walking and operating speed, amplifying the overall experience and encouraging players to explore and conquer new territories with increased momentum.
Deep within the island’s interior, a colossal creature has been unearthed, its vast knowledge of the terrain allowing it to capitalize on the environment for maximum advantage. According to developer Maru VR, survivors must be prepared and ensure their equipment is thoroughly maintained in order to successfully confront this formidable adversary.
Since February’s early entry launch, this marks the second major update, following June’s “Constructing and Stock” patch. The update introduced a novel construction framework, enabling players to construct shelters for personal security, while also introducing improved inventory management capabilities that allow vital items to be stored in a backpack.
During our Gamescom 2024 experience, we thoroughly enjoyed playing Bootstrap Island and were impressed by its user-friendly gameplay mechanics. While we initially thought there were few issues to address in this pioneering VR game, we recognized its immense potential as an early entry sport.
Bootstrap Island is now available for early access on Steam and Viveport, with a full release slated for late 2025.
