Despite VR’s breakout hit having the potential to plateau following its successful 1.0 launch in June, developer Warpfrog is already gearing up for its next project – a new title that promises to be just as highly moddable and action-packed as its beloved physics-based fighting game.
While details remain scarce at the bottom line, the studio’s next title is reportedly a VR game, featuring “familiar hallmarks of Warpfrog games,” including physics-based interactions and a strong focus on simulation.
Moreover, the studio has confirmed that its upcoming sequel may be “extremely moddable” – built on the same foundation as its predecessor.
Notably, users can effortlessly modify the game by manually editing permits or utilizing Nexus Mod Supervisor, which organizes all necessary files in the player’s game folder, enabling them to make tweaks as minor as adding extra sparks to weapons during conflicts, or importing user-generated maps and weapons for a distinctively new experience.
In an October conversation with Meta, the studio revealed that it is adopting a novel framework for its upcoming game, born from the need to push its previous framework to the limit during its extended early access period.
We need to meticulously refactor some remaining spaghetti code and then optimize its performance. We must start anew and rebuild from the ground up to develop a completely fresh concept for a novel engine. We launched development on a cutting-edge framework designed for unparalleled speed, in tandem with the introduction of a fresh, innovative sport. This time, our goal is to establish a comprehensive framework tailored specifically for the team, marking the first instance where we’re undertaking a thorough, end-to-end development process in collaboration with a complete crew.
The prospect of successful outcomes from Warpfrog is hardly an exaggeration, given that KospY’s initial solo venture has grown into a team of nearly 30 individuals under their leadership.
With the June 1.0 update, the game has transcended being simply a visceral melee-based fight sandbox, evolving into a full-fledged journey game in its own right. The addition of story-based mode, “Crystal Hunt,” has breathed new life into the title, introducing narrative depth, improvement programs, and a vast, interconnected world that dwarfs its predecessors.
As the next chapter unfolds for Warpfrog, the excitement builds… Leveraging our cumulative expertise from the past five years, we’re eager to unveil the innovative endeavors we’ve been brewing. The studio’s assistance has enabled them to embark on creating more substantial and complex video games, according to a recent Steam update statement.
