At the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show, we’re currently exploring the exhibition floor and caught sight of the brand-new Asus ROG mini gaming PC, making its debut. While it’s not diminutive in the vein of cutting-edge miniaturization showcased by brands like Geekom, the device still boasts an impressively compact profile, standing at a mere 282.4 millimeters tall and 56.55 millimeters wide. That’s a compact chassis for the impressive specs within, positioning this machine as a serious contender for the title of top mini gaming PC.
The machine constructs vertically rather than horizontally, relying on laptop components to regulate temperature and power demands. While the laptop model is not a desktop RTX 3080 GPU, it should still be a powerful gaming device nonetheless. Asus’s decision to use a wider chassis allows for effective cooling of the device, courtesy of three fans and a dual vapor chamber design that collectively contribute to “silent cooling”.
The toolless design features a single thumbscrew at the rear, allowing for effortless upgrading, much like a desktop setup, with ample space for two SSDs and PCIe 5.0 support enabling installation of high-performance gaming SSD units. You can configure up to 96GB of DDR5 RAM, operating at frequencies of up to 6,400MHz; Asus asserts that this capacity is further expandable via the utility of its ROG BIOS on the motherboard, enabling overclocking capabilities.
With its sleek design, the monitor boasts an extensive array of RGB lighting across the chassis, offering users the flexibility to connect up to four 4K displays via a combination of two HDMI inputs and two DisplayPort 2.1 connectors. The latest equipment supports advanced connectivity with added assistance for Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 7, boasting speeds of up to 46 Gbps.
