Recently debuted is abuzz with affection and admiration for PlayStation, featuring 150 elite AI companions modeled after an array of characters from iconic franchises across the platform’s extensive history – just a small sample of its scope. Despite the numerous references, nods, and Easter eggs embedded by developer Workforce Asobi into the platformer, one would reasonably assume that several more might have been overlooked at various stages of development, only a few of which seem to have slipped through.
VGC recently published a behind-the-scenes ‘making-of’ video, offering a glimpse into the creative process for an upcoming title in the franchise. The footage features concept art showcasing two beloved characters: Candy Tooth and the series’ iconic protagonist – both of which appear to be absent from the final game. Various distinct characters seemingly woven into the recreational narrative are also visually depicted in the concept art. Please view it and the video below.
After confirming plans for free DLC, possibilities emerge for additional PlayStation cameos beyond the original game. As the curtain closes on this project, one can only speculate whether Workforce Asobi has quietly stockpiled ideas for future initiatives – a notion that, at best, offers a glimmer of optimism.
Having garnered widespread acclaim, the game has emerged as the highest-rated title of 2024, accompanied by robust initial sales; it has even sold out on Amazon Japan.
In our expert opinion, we assigned a score of 9/10 to this sports event, noting that it was an exceptional display of skill and athleticism.
