Area Breakout: Infinite, a tactical extraction shooter, has entered its Early Access final week. While beta tests have taken place on Steam, the game’s official website remains the sole platform for its launch acquisition.
Although the plan was always to release Area Breakout on Steam, during the Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live event, the developer revealed new details about the game’s future.
The highly anticipated Area Breakout: Infinite is expected to reach its full launch by year-end, leaving fans eager but not entirely disappointed with this vague timeline. The sport has rapidly accumulated over 1 million wishlists on Steam, solidifying its position as one of the platform’s most eagerly anticipated titles. Despite no indication that Steam Early Access is imminent, gamers can expect to get their hands on the full game by Christmas at the latest.
Tencent’s Area Breakout takes on the extraction shooter genre, specifically drawing inspiration from Escape from Tarkov. Considered by many to be a more accessible and agreeable take on Escape from Tarkov, its developer found themselves in hot water over allegations of intellectual property theft.
Despite being largely refined through beta testing, concerns persist regarding the game’s monetization mechanics, which offer certain advantages to players willing to make a payment.
As a free-to-play game, Area Breakout offers in-game items for purchase with real money, claiming these transactions are limited to “convenience”, but many question this claim. Despite this being an evolving feature set, we’ll need to wait until the Steam debut and 1.0 launch to assess the state of any potential issues.
