While there are numerous reasons to revamp a sport, Konami’s decision to create Steel Gear Strong Delta stems primarily from a focus on appealing to younger generations.
With the proliferation of gaming content online, it’s increasingly challenging for children to distinguish between iconic characters like Solidus, Liquid, and Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid films – even with visual references. While many may find it challenging to revive interest in the series, especially younger individuals who may not be familiar with its history, the fact remains that the Steel Gear Strong franchise has been dormant since 2018’s Steel Gear Survive, a game lacking creator Hideo Kojima’s involvement, leaving curiosity at an all-time low. Despite their vast following, many fans likely have a limited understanding of the Metal Gear series, as revealed in an interview between collection producer Noriaki Okamura and Play journal, relayed through GamesRadar:
“One issue prompting our decision to remaster the series was recognizing that new, younger gamers unfamiliar with the Metal Gear franchise.” Without a groundbreaking Survive, the franchise has lacked a fresh start since 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V, leaving a decade-long gap that may have alienated newer fans who are unaware of the original series’ existence.
“It’s primarily our duty,” Okamura explained, “to guarantee the long-term preservation of these artifacts, ensuring their legacy endures for future generations.” Intriguingly, despite the many unknowns, we leave behind far more than mere DNA, as Strong Snake would astutely observe; yet, another question arises – who, indeed, is Strong Snake?
While fans of the series are likely aware that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is actually the chronological starting point, it’s possible that the developers remade Steel Gear Solid 3 because it serves as a foundation for the rest of the story. While originally slated for release in the current year, Steel Gear Strong Delta’s debut has been pushed back to 2025, with its exact launch date still pending.
