Amazon’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider appears to be experiencing issues with its game sequence, as stability testing seems to be taking a backseat for now.
The role of Lara Croft poses a significant challenge to fill, given her online game origins and their iconic status, as well as her live-action debut, which was brought to life by Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie – a daunting task regardless of the quality of the films themselves? Within the 2018 Tomb Raider reboot, Alicia Vikander’s portrayal was initially intended as a springboard for Lara Croft’s revitalization, in tandem with Crystal Dynamics’ game series. Unfortunately, a lukewarm critical reception ultimately torpedoed those efforts. As Deadline reports, casting is underway to find the perfect fit for the latest Lara Croft iteration, with at least one familiar face already in the mix.
Sophie Turner, star of Game of Thrones, appears to be auditioning for a role alongside Lucy Boynton, best known for her portrayal in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and a minor appearance in the Barbie film as Proust Barbie. Famous Deadline reports that the identity of other potential actresses vying for the role remains unclear, despite rumors surrounding stars like Emma Corrin and Mackenzie Davis, both of whom were reportedly on Amazon’s wish list, but ultimately do not appear to be in contention.
Amazon’s original series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, best known for her critically acclaimed series Fleabag, as well as her work on notable projects such as the James Bond film No Time to Die and an appearance in the upcoming Indiana Jones installment, The Dial of Future. Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s adaptation of Tomb Raider has been in development for a relatively brief period, but it wasn’t until May that the project received the go-ahead – likely influenced by the massive success of the live-action Fallout series. Although a release date hasn’t been confirmed, fans of the franchise can expect the new Tomb Raider game at some point in the future, despite the ongoing casting process being incomplete.
