Early gameplay experiences with Survios’ forthcoming title have surfaced, showcasing a thrilling glimpse into what may be one of the most impressive VR releases of the year to date.
As the release date approaches for the highly anticipated game, we’re excited to announce that it will be available on all major VR headsets this December. Take on the role of Zula Hendricks, a formidable ex-Colonial Marine with a complex past, as you embark on a perilous mission to rescue your friend and former squad mate.
You face off against the deadly Xenomorph infestation on board the ship, accompanied by your reliable AI ally, Davis 01. Your mission is to infiltrate the Gemini Exoplanet Options analysis facility, navigating through its labyrinthine corridors to uncover the sinister secrets hidden within. There, scientists warn of “lethal horrors” that could potentially prove catastrophic to humanity’s survival.
Now, several retailers have unveiled their first-hand impressions with
There’s no denying that Leanne Butkovic’s preview for the Alien film mentioned its “basic moments of Alien horror” without any qualifiers, effectively conveying her straightforward assessment. Butkovic praises the game’s immersive atmosphere, well-structured narrative progression, and user-friendly combat mechanics.
While it doesn’t appear to overwhelm with frantic wave shooter mechanics,
“But when that happens,” Butkovic said, “it deliberately unfolds slowly, allowing individuals like me who struggle with connectivity issues to grasp the narrative of this Alien franchise on our own terms.”
Additionally, this setup doesn’t appear to be geared towards overwhelming players with a plethora of fundamental gamer interaction elements. Butkovic describes it as a cinematic endeavour free from the compulsion to constantly level up or explore every nook of the map.
Notably, we discovered that the Xenomorphs’ pack-like behavior was inspired by the intelligent Velociraptors from Jurassic Park, resulting in a more dynamic game of cat and mouse where roles are frequently reversed according to the mission’s requirements.
Ian Hamilton further delved into crafting a narrative that promised a comprehensive eight-hour experience.
Watch below for an exclusive look at Hamilton’s gameplay, featuring a candid interview with Survios’ Chief Product Officer TQ Jefferson and author Alex White, who delve into how the title fits within the franchise’s legacy and the mechanics behind the “thriller-paced” Xenomorph action.
While it’s undeniable that the concept hasn’t been replicated with the same fervor in modern VR video game releases, where players are often tasked with evading nearly invisible Xenomorphs, the gameplay still manages to deliver heart-pumping thrills.
According to White, the design of Aliens was intended to heighten the sense of momentum and empowerment felt by soldiers in combat, perpetuating an ongoing dynamic of tension between humans and Xenomorphs.
The highly anticipated title will release on December nineteenth, 2024, simultaneously debuting on PlayStation VR2, PC Virtual Reality, and both Quest 3 and Quest 3S platforms in their entirety. Pre-orders are now available for your game on Steam, the PlayStation Retailer, and the Horizon Retailer.
