While Matt Reeves has created a standalone vision for his Gotham and Robert Pattinson’s Batman, he cannot explicitly comment on the character’s potential integration into the broader DC Universe.
The Batman’s box office success, exceeding $770 million, gave rise to an entirely new DC Universe under James Gunn’s leadership. So far, the fledgling DC Universe (DCU) boasts a solitary addition: Creature Commandos, which kicked things off this summer under James Gunn’s guidance with his accurate portrayal of Superman. While exploring innovative approaches to filmmaking together with The Brave and the Bold, a forthcoming Batman and Robin movie directed by Andy Muschietti, creator of The Flash. The 2022 film’s iteration of Batman remains unconnected to the larger DC Universe, leaving uncertainty surrounding its potential inclusion in the sprawling cinematic universe. Beforehand, Gunn had spoken on the Joyful Unhappy Confused podcast last month, revealing that he has at least “considered” leaving.
It’s crucial to note that such a statement does not constitute an endorsement of everything, as Gunn explicitly stated he considers every aspect. Reeves’ concepts surrounding this query are somewhat incongruous, given his prior statement about Gotham not venturing “full fantastical”, which doesn’t harmonize well with a world featuring Krypto the Superdog. Reeves has since spoken candidly with Josh Horowitz of Joyful Unhappy Confused at the Golden Globes, addressing the matter directly. Whether Pattinson’s Batman joins the DC Universe will depend on whether it makes sense.
There existed a story that required me to convey important information. The epic crime saga. James and Peter Safran have shown a willingness to accommodate my needs in regards to playing this out. They’re letting us do this. What the future holds remains uncertain, but that’s no reason to remain oblivious. I don’t know. I’m determined to get a solid grasp on capturing The Batman: Half 2, which is undoubtedly the key factor.
As requested, the director Matt Reeves simply shrugged off any potential involvement of Robert Pattinson in the DC Universe’s upcoming Batman project. While we wait to see where the story takes us, fingers crossed it doesn’t stray from its intended course. As a fan of Pattinson’s Batman, I think he would make an excellent team with David Corenswet’s Superman – it’s an alliance that could lead to compelling collaborations. Still, I’m a bit fatigued by cinematic universes; they need to give Robbie P a Robin and let the narrative breathe.
