Throughout 2024, the video game industry has faced unprecedented turmoil, with widespread layoffs totaling hundreds, a trend that shows no signs of abating. The independent game developer Deck Nine has announced a new round of layoffs, following on from previous restructuring efforts.
Following the release of a new game, Deck 9 announced on Twitter that they will be letting go of an unspecified number of employees due to “challenging circumstances” in the gaming industry.
“We regret to inform you that we must part ways with a handful of valued colleagues.” This particularly vexing resolution exemplifies the complex challenges many companies in our industry are currently facing. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every individual who has invested their unwavering effort, passion, and commitment in crafting innovative entertainment experiences with us.”
For the third consecutive time, Deck 9 has been forced to downsize operations, with the latest round occurring in less than two years – a stark reminder of the company’s struggles, following previous rounds of layoffs in May of last year and January of this year.
Deck 9 has also developed and co-developed several projects beforehand.
Is available on the market for play on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms.
