VRChat aims to introduce age verification for adult users starting with select early access groups.
VRChat plans to collaborate with Persona to verify users’ ages through a government-issued ID, combined with a camera-enabled device such as a phone or laptop. The character verification feature is designed to control access to cases created with Age Verification enabled, without obliging users to fully utilize VRChat’s capabilities.
“Verified 18+ badges are available for age-verified customers, allowing them to add this indicator to their profiles,” says VRChat in its guidelines for team early entry access.
In a recent video, VRChat’s Senior Group Manager, Strasz, announced that the company will collaborate with a few event planners to conduct a pilot program for age-verified events. During the trial period, only team members can apply for age verification, and only these teams can restrict event access to individuals who have completed the verification process. We’re keeping it intimate at first to iron out the wrinkles.
Professional event organizers with access to this feature may have the option to restrict attendance to age-verified customers. To accommodate varying demographics, a bar may choose to restrict access to patrons aged 18 and above. All attendees are required to complete the Age Verification course prior to participation. As the method reaches its capacity, individuals aged 18 or above are allowed to participate in age verification processes at their earliest convenience.
An optional “Verified 18+” badge will be added to a user’s VRChat profile, serving as an indicator of their age verification.
“As the Age Verification feature becomes widely available, we’re considering how it will impact content filters on this trial phase, ensuring a seamless transition.” “We believe that offering age verification as an option will enable our communities and customers to more effectively customize their experiences, ultimately building a stronger and safer platform.”
