The fiasco that was one of Blizzard Entertainment’s most notorious launches would warrant such a dramatic label. Upon its 2020 relaunch, the remastered version of a beloved PC game garnered widespread criticism for its botched execution, ultimately disappointing fans and prompting Blizzard Entertainment to issue numerous refunds. Despite initial reservations, the developer seems to be attempting another iteration to address specific issues.
To commemorate its 30th anniversary, Blizzard has not only released remasters of classic titles, but also rolled out an Update 2.0 for World of Warcraft. Among its most notable additions is the ability to seamlessly switch between multiple visual styles – the original game’s look, remastered look, and a brand-new aesthetic that retains the original’s charm while boasting enhanced resolution and visuals.
Meanwhile, the revamp also introduces a reinvigorated user interface, accompanied by a plethora of visual upgrades, including overhauled lighting and enhanced environments. Unique sports accessories have also been upgraded to high-definition (HD).
Upon its launch in 2020, we initially assessed this product with a score of 5 out of 10, noting that while it showed promise, it fell short of expectations in several key areas.
