Livestream (LIV) has introduced a Unity Software Development Kit (SDK), enabling users to capture high-quality, third-person footage of virtual reality (VR) standalone experiences on Oculus Quest devices.
Last year, Meta announced the deprecation of its own PC-based virtual reality capture tools and instead opted to officially support LIV, a technology that has been around since 2016. This arrived simultaneously with the LIV SDK 2.0 update, which brought enhanced support for Quest features on PC.
LIV has become the official quest third-person capture tool.
LIV has been officially designated as the go-to quest creation and actuality seize software for Quest, and its capabilities are soon to be expanded to enable standalone use without reliance on a PC.
On PC-based virtual reality platforms, LIV’s unique feature allows content creators to seamlessly integrate their own footage, capturing themselves immersed in a VR experience, with third-person gameplay footage from the game itself. Although the LIV Creator Equipment doesn’t inherently possess that functionality, it can still enable the capture of third-person footage without requiring a PC to be involved at all.
The LIV (Lightfield Interaction Vision) Creator Equipment enables builders to integrate immersive experiences into their video games, seamlessly working across both Quest and PC VR platforms. The default integration provides a unified floating camera interface that enables seamless collaboration between players, allowing for both first-person and third-person capture, as well as empowering developers to craft their own customized interfaces.
Captured movies are stored directly on the Oculus Quest headset or on your PC for PC VR experiences.
Gamers and builders can fine-tune their sector of view and level of stabilization, enabling them to capture high-quality, uncropped widescreen first-person footage using LIV Creator Equipment, a capability similar to that offered by Meta Quest Developer Hub, but without the need for a PC.
The Gorilla Tag game mode is the primary focus for implementing LIV (Live Interactive Video) Creator Equipment. It’s currently undergoing testing with a limited number of users and is expected to roll out to all customers within the next few days. The partnership between Penguin Paradise and LIV Creator Equipment, along with other notable collaborators such as Digigods, Trombone Champ: Unflattened, Scary Baboon, and Neolithic Daybreak, aims to drive mutual growth and success in the future.
