Whitewater VR: Excessive Kayaking Journey now splashes down on PlayStation VR2.
Prior to its re-release on Steam in April, Whitewater VR was crafted by solo developer Adam Horvath using Unreal Engine 5. Immersive in its thrill-seeking essence, Whitewater VR is an adrenaline-fueled solo experience where you compete against time through diverse river courses across five breathtaking environments: Tropical Jungle, Alpine Valley, Spring Mountain, Japanese Iceland, and Desert Canyon.
With Whitewater VR, you can experience authentic whitewater rafting simulations, featuring realistic physics, dynamic water effects, and intuitive controls. The movement controllers allow for precise paddle strokes, while subtle body movements or button presses enable sharp turns. The game offers a range of featured modes, including a tutorial that introduces players to the gameplay mechanics. Additionally, there is the “Free Trip” mode, which allows players to freely explore an environment without any specific objectives or constraints. The “Time Assault” mode presents a thrilling experience as players compete against the clock to complete checkpoints within a set time limit. Other solo actions are also available for players to enjoy. On-line leaderboards are also available.
According to Horvath, the Whitewater VR game operates at a native 90 frames per second on the PlayStation VR2 without requiring reprojection. The VR experience is enhanced by harnessing foveated rendering capabilities, which utilize eye-tracking data, in conjunction with subtle haptic feedback from the Sense controllers. Lastly, the game boasts an impressive collection of 26 trophies, including a highly coveted platinum trophy.
