Mojang recently announced that it will discontinue support for PlayStation VR (PSVR) by 2025, a decision that seems logical given the headset’s age of eight years. The latest Bedrock update’s release notes reveal that PC VR support will also be discontinued alongside its console counterpart.
The popular Minecraft game’s support for PSVR will cease by March 2025, while it will continue to assist PC VR headsets.
According to the Bedrock 1.21.40 changelog, even after securing the ultimate replacement, users will continue to receive updates on their PC and be able to play without relying on VR/MR technology, mirroring an earlier statement made regarding PSVR.
The Bedrock version was first released to support Oculus Rift in 2016, before being expanded to accommodate Windows VR headsets the following year. The workforce subsequently embraced OpenXR, enabling support for every SteamVR headset. Since Meta abandoned updates for Rift in 2021, it has been removed from the platform’s listings, leaving only the Windows Store version available for official PC VR support going forward.
While many PSVR users may be straightforward, a common approach for PC VR consumers is typically installing Java versions ranging from 1.7.10 to 1.20.1 to facilitate optimal performance.
This mod supports single player, local area network (LAN) multiplayer, and server-based multiplayer – excluding official servers, and there is no cross-play available between different Bedrock editions, including those for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or mobile devices.
As a result, Quest users are also accommodated, thanks to an unofficial mod that bundles Vivecraft and Pojlib into a self-contained Java package, incorporating all the cross-play considerations mentioned earlier?

The following message was posted by Mojang below announcing the end of OpenXR support.
As our commitment to supporting VR/MR units comes to a close, we regret to inform you that these features will no longer receive updates after March 2025, with the final patch being made available then. Even after obtaining the ultimate replacement, you will still receive updates for your PC and be able to play without a VR/MR system. As you progress from this point forward, you’ll have the ability to sustain construction in your virtual environments, and your Market transactions, including Minecoin purchases, will remain accessible and usable on non-VR/MR graphical systems such as computer monitors. Unfortunately, you will not be able to utilize your virtual reality or mixed reality system with Minecraft due to a lack of support in the latest software updates.
