Will a brand-new teaser trailer for Osgood Perkins’ latest cinematic venture likely deter viewers from those dissonant, clanging drumsticks forever?
In August, the primary teaser for The Monkey underwhelmed, showcasing only fleeting glimpses of its titular primate’s dexterous drumming skills, juxtaposed against a haunting image of lead actor Theo James shrouded in crimson.
Just yesterday, Neon released another teaser trailer, a red-band edition that ups the ante on traditional horror tropes with a healthy dose of violence. The unspoken foreshadowing preceding a tragic event often creates an eerie atmosphere around activities like pool parties, hibachi cooking performances, or even drumming sessions, subtly hinting at impending doom? While sharing similarities with Longleg’s tone, the assessment appears uncertain due to the subpar conclusion in the referenced film, leaving me with some trepidations regarding its overall quality.

“When twin brothers Hal and Invoice stumble upon their father’s long-forgotten monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome and unexplained deaths starts to unfold before them.” As the brothers resolved to consign the monkey to its fate and move forward, they drifted apart over time. When a series of inexplicable deaths besets their community once more, the brothers must reconcile their differences and devise a plan to vanquish the malevolent entity before it claims the lives of everyone dear to them.
The series boasts a robust, forged exterior featuring James, alongside Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk), Laura Mennell (The Man in the High Castle), Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween 2018), and Christian Convery (Candy Tooth). With James Wan’s involvement as co-producer, the film benefits from his established horror credentials, blending the best of both worlds – his own Insidious and Saw franchises with fresh perspectives.
The highly anticipated film is just four months from hitting theaters, slated for a February 21, 2025 release date.
