With Walkabout Mini Golf scaling the top-grossing charts on the Apple App Store, its popularity shows no signs of slowing down.
The critically acclaimed VR game, The Pocket Version, has recently been released as a paid title on the Apple App Store, pitting it against popular gaming heavyweights like Minecraft, Stardew Valley, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. As of this writing, Mighty Coconut’s $4.99 sport has claimed the #16 spot on the highest-paid video game charts on iPhone in the US, just 12 hours after its international launch, outpacing Terraria in the process. Online reports suggest that the game may soon reach the top spot in certain countries, pending confirmation.
Walkabout Mini Golf has made history by being one of the first apps to successfully transition from virtual reality (VR) to iPhone, offering a paid experience with private rooms for multiplayer connections to all major VR headsets. This achievement comes on the heels of free VR apps like Rec Room building significant player bases outside of VR, but Walkabout Mini Golf’s move marks a notable shift towards mainstream adoption.
“Notably, this initiative was entirely driven by participants,” stated David Wyatt, Head of Communications at Mighty Coconut, in an interview with UploadVR. “No advertisements.”
For these unfamiliar, Walkabout options 18 gap programs with a quickly rising library of paid DLC add-ons, together with Jim Henson’s Labyrinth, Myst, Meow Wolf, Wallace & Gromit, and, subsequent 12 months, Elvis Presley. Visitors can play with friends, even without owning a course, making the passes an attractive option. However, the real draw lies in unlocking exclusive clubs and discovering hidden balls – features that provide substantial incentives for players to purchase additional content.
