Niantic’s home for Peridots is expanding on Quest 3 headsets with a forthcoming paid add-on, set to launch next year for Hey, Dot.
Niantic debuted Howdy, Dot in May this year, showcasing Meta’s mixed reality capabilities on Quest 3 headsets. The free app brings a charming virtual creature into your physical space. Just recently, Peridot Past officially announced its digital pets for the Spectacles AR glasses, confirming their addition to the popular wearable technology.
The corporation behind Pokémon Go has confirmed to UploadVR that its growing workforce is actively iterating on concepts to expand Peridot’s capabilities on Quest 3 headsets, collaborating closely with Meta. While introducing playdates with various Dots alongside cosmetics and toys seems promising for the creature, it’s essential to note that Niantic cautions that this add-on will likely undergo significant revisions.
Niantic has revealed a glimpse into the development process by sharing an early, work-in-progress prototype of an interactive concept that is being considered as part of their forthcoming premium expansion. The video showcases a machine that seamlessly blends reality by dispensing a pair of sunglasses for the Dot to wear.
Download Peridot for free on both iPhone and Android platforms, where you’ll enjoy a comprehensive mobile game featuring a wide range of activities to engage with your Dots, including playing with them, customizing their appearances by outfitting them with various accessories. On mobile devices, the game incorporates a feature where players combine their characters to breed and hatch novel “genetically unique” Dots.
As we gaze into the horizon, it’s clear that we’re still far removed from a future where virtual companions, such as a Pikachu or Dot, seamlessly transition between devices – from phone to AR glasses to VR headset – providing constant digital company throughout our daily lives. Despite this, Niantic is persistently forging ahead to discover the key elements of an engaging gameplay experience through its innovative collaboration with Snap’s glasses and Meta’s headsets.
“Asim Ahmed, International Product Advertising Lead at Niantic and Peridot’s team, noted that he frequently envisions a brilliant future where various types of units can collaborate to form a broader expertise.”
Now available exclusively on the Horizon Store for Quest 3 and 3S headsets, the highly anticipated “Dot” experience can be obtained at no cost.
