As Kojima Productions’ plate overflows with projects, anticipation mounts around any creation born from Hideo Kojima’s mind, with Death Stranding potentially standing out as the most captivating prospect. Touted as a horror expertise that will occupy the space between a game and a film, boasting a star-studded cast, this project is undeniably pushing boundaries as an experimental endeavour.
In a recent interview with Selection, Kojima emphasized the same point, describing Death Stranding as “a game like no other” that poses “a new challenge” even for himself as a creator.
While Kojima described this experience as a unique recreation, he emphasized that it was indeed a recreation unlike any other. While I find this difficulty in discussing game mechanics in depth is a challenge, I must admit that it’s a relatively fresh concern for someone like myself who typically excels in navigating virtual worlds.
This isn’t the first time Kojima has discussed uniqueness? Prior to its release, Hideo Kojima revealed that this project would be an experimental recreation reminiscent of another game he had previously developed for the Game Boy Advance, which featured a daylight sensor integral to its combat mechanics.
During the interview, Kojima touched on his collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Jordan Peele.
“I was once a huge Michael Jordan fan and decided to go see…” When I look back, I previously hosted a podcast on Spotify. I recorded an episode and was thrilled to learn that Jordan Peele, a renowned filmmaker, is a fan of my work. Let’s schedule a Zoom meeting! Given our age difference, I initially thought we’d have little in common. But within just five minutes of talking, my new acquaintance struck me as someone I’d known since childhood. When I encounter individuals with a cognitive framework that closely mirrors my own, this phenomenon frequently arises. Despite our initial reservations, we ultimately decided to settle in Los Angeles. Following several conferences in Los Angeles, our discussions centered on the projects each of us was actively working on. As I articulated my concept to him, his fascination was palpable, leading me to ask that he formalize our arrangement.
Prior to this announcement, Hideo Kojima specified that Jordan Peele would be involved in an artistic capacity, leaving unclear the extent of his role; however, it was disclosed that he is part of a larger ensemble featuring other notable celebrities alongside him.
Last year, Kojima Productions registered trademarks for “Social Scream System” and “Social Stealth”, potentially alluding to aspects related to their upcoming project. For more insight, follow this link.
