The creative director of Star Wars: Outlaws acknowledges the feedback regarding certain initial stealth missions, assuring that changes will be implemented to address these concerns.
One of the most widely reviled mechanics in the world of video games is undoubtedly stealth. While a superb stealth experience like Steel Gear Strong or Dishonored can indeed make sneakily enjoyable, it’s often the case that when stealth isn’t the primary objective in video games, it tends to become frustrating – especially when moments arise where failure is imminent and unavoidable? Star Wars: Outlaws has fallen victim to this issue, but relief may be on the horizon with pending updates in an upcoming patch.
GamesRadar recently sought input from Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell game creative director Julian Gerighty regarding the instant-fail stealth missions that have sparked controversy, inquiring about plans to address these issues. “The developer notes that players are probably thinking about one of the earlier missions in Mirogana, which is notoriously challenging.” While acknowledging potential errors, he remarks, “That may be a misstep, and we’ll focus on refining that aspect.” He then clarifies, “I don’t envision eliminating failures entirely, but rather identifying numerous opportunities to simplify and streamline the process, making it far more enjoyable and intuitive for users.
While fairness is crucial to Gerighty’s enjoyment of the sport, he concedes that his current experience suggests a lack of equity, admitting, “right now, I feel like it feels unfair.” Whether to consider it or not, this wasn’t actually part of our original plan. The anomaly arose unexpectedly during the last week or so, and we’re currently rectifying it as part of an imminent patch scheduled to drop in approximately ten days.
While a 10-day wait might initially seem lengthy, the forthcoming adjustments at least provide some consolation – or if you’ve already conquered the previous missions, you can take pride in having bested them in their more challenging state.
At the end of last month, Star Wars Outlaws debuted, leaving our own Jim with a favorable impression, as evident from his 4-out-of-5-star review, where he noted that it “won’t be winning any Game of the Year awards.” Despite this, it will undoubtedly capture many hearts.
